Orion Markets vs Panjiva: what each covers and who it suits

Zaktualizowano: 22.10.2026

Panjiva is a supply chain intelligence platform of S&P Global Market Intelligence. Its product page lists 22 countries that provide source data, over 2 billion shipment records and 9 million company profiles, with the United States, Brazil, China and India among the sources. Orion Markets is a smaller service: it covers 14 countries, mainly in the EAEU and Central Asia, Latin America and Asia, and shows the data as ready answers for sales and purchasing, not as individual shipment records. Panjiva suits teams that need wide coverage, supply chain mapping or data for their own models; Orion Markets suits companies whose markets are among its 14 countries and who want a ready answer to a commercial question.

The facts about Panjiva below come from its official pages, the Panjiva page on spglobal.com and panjiva.com, as viewed on 22 October 2026. Check the current terms there before you decide.

What Panjiva is built for

Panjiva describes itself as a supply chain intelligence platform. Its main idea is to show who trades with whom across supply chains: importers, exporters, the links between them and the trade lanes. According to its product page:

  • it cleans the data so that different spellings of one company or place become one profile, and sorts products into HTS codes;
  • you can search for importers and exporters, see who your peers or competitors trade with, and analyse trade lanes and supply chain risk;
  • you can save a search and get an email when a new company matches it or a company you follow has new shipments;
  • results can be exported, for example to build a lead list;
  • through Xpressfeed the data can go into a CRM or into quantitative models used by investors.

Panjiva is one product in a wider S&P Global offer, next to S&P Capital IQ Pro and other supply chain and risk services. For a company that already uses S&P data, this can matter as much as the coverage.

What Orion Markets is built for

Orion Markets is aimed at exporters, importers and manufacturers rather than analysts and investors. It works with foreign trade shipment data of 14 countries and gives ready answers to everyday commercial questions:

  • Is this company really trading the product? Company profiles show products, countries, partners and how they change over time.
  • How big is the market and who holds it? Reports in Analyze markets by product and over 4,300 ready reports in Ready-made research show volume, importers and suppliers with their shares, prices per kilogram and countries of origin.
  • Where should I export? Find new export markets ranks countries for your product, taking into account your cost, demand, competition, duties and restrictions.
  • Whom should I write to? Find buyers and Find suppliers give shortlists of companies that already trade your product.
  • What changed? Monitoring follows companies, markets and countries and sends alerts.

Individual shipment records are not shown on Orion Markets. You see totals, shares and lists of companies, which is enough for most commercial decisions but not for building your own record-level database.

Where the coverage overlaps

Both services list Pakistan, the Philippines and Vietnam. Panjiva also names "Central and South America" among its sources without listing the countries, so check on its side whether Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina or Panama are included and for which periods. Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Bangladesh and Mongolia are not in the list on the Panjiva product page; it may be incomplete, so ask their sales team if these countries matter to you.

When to choose Panjiva

  • You need the United States, China, India, Brazil or Turkey. These are on Panjiva's list of sources and not on Orion's.
  • You map supply chains. Company-to-company links and trade lane analysis are central to Panjiva.
  • You feed data into your own systems or models. Xpressfeed is made for that, including for investment research.
  • You already work with S&P Global. Panjiva sits next to Capital IQ Pro and other S&P services.
  • You need decision-maker contacts at scale. The site states contacts for over 1 million companies.

When Orion Markets fits better

  • Your markets are in the EAEU and Central Asia, such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan or Armenia, or among Orion's countries in Latin America and Asia.
  • You need an answer, not a dataset. A market report, a ranked list of export markets or a shortlist of buyers is ready without analysts.
  • You want to know the price in advance. Orion's tariffs are published, and you can buy for a month.
  • You want to see the data first. Free registration opens full sample profiles and reports.
  • Your team works in another language. The interface is available in 20 languages, including Russian, Spanish, Turkish and Vietnamese.

Orion Markets' limits to keep in mind

  • 14 countries with shipment-level data, against 22 source countries on Panjiva. There is no data for the United States, the European Union, China or India.
  • For most countries the data starts in 2025 or 2026, and for some recently added countries there is only one month so far; Russia goes back to 2012, but since July 2025 it covers only trade with Kazakhstan. Current periods are on the data coverage page.
  • No individual shipment records and no raw downloads.
  • No data feed for quantitative models; the API gives access to company profiles and market data.

How to decide

  1. Write down the three or four countries that matter most to you, and check them on both sides: direction, first and last month of data.
  2. Decide whether you need records or answers. If an analyst will work with the data, records give more freedom; if a sales or purchasing manager will use it, ready answers save time.
  3. Test both on a product and a company you know well.
  4. Compare what the price includes: countries, users, contacts, monitoring, API or data feed.

To see how Orion Markets shows the data, open a free sample report in Ready-made research. A wider overview of free and paid sources is in Where to get foreign trade data for a country.

Panjiva, Xpressfeed and D-U-N-S are trademarks of their owners. Orion Markets is not affiliated with them; the comparison is based on information on the official Panjiva and S&P Global websites as of 22 October 2026.
